LDR & LED Smoke Detector

Smoke detectors are generally used in advanced alarm systems. Most of this professional devices use gas-detectors, ionization rooms or radioactive elements as sensors. In this circuit we are not using any of this complicated components. Instead of these, we are using two LDRs and one LED. LM1801 special-purpose IC ,which is designed especially for smoke detectors, provides us building this circuit by using the minimum number of components. It includes one internal zener supply, two reference .......

PIC12F683: A brief Introduction

PIC12F683 is a 8-pin Flash based, 8bit RISC microcontroller from Microchip. This little PIC microcontroller offers up to 6 I/O pins (the remaining two are power supply pins). It needs no external oscillator, as it has an in-built oscillator with software selectable frequency from 8 MHz to 125 KHz. It also offers a feature that allows external signals to wake it upfrom the sleep state. Here are the various features as mentioned on the datasheet. High-Performance RISC CPU:? Only 35 instructions to.......

Dot/Bar Display Driver Circuit

This project is all about LEDs. It gives basic guideline of how LEDs can be used to design something new in a better way. The circuit entitled; ?DOT/BAR DISPLAY DRIVER? accepts variable input voltage and turns on one or more LEDs corresponding to the instantaneous voltage of the input. We can thus conclude that LEDs are here used to provide visual display of the magnitude of the input signal. Depending on the requirement, the circuit offers two modes of operation, out of which one produces a sin.......

Discharge Indicator Circuit for 12V Lead Acid Battery

Discharge Indicator Circuit for 12V Lead Acid BatteryHere the discharge indicator circuit for Lead Acid battery 12V. This circuit is used to prevent the batteries from damage. When discharging the battery voltage pin 12V Lead may not be reduced below 10. 8V, so we notice the lighting of Led, when the voltage falls below this value. To achieve control we need a constant voltage and a circuit that can compare this .......

Build a fully featured Arduino Thermostat

IntroductionIn this post I will attempt to describe the steps I took to build the arduino based thermostat shown in the following videos. The first video was taken when around just half of the coding of the menu system was complete, but gives you a basic run through of the features. This second video shows the completed thermostat with additional features implemented over the holidays, which includes a Total Heat Time counter, and a line graphing feature which shows temperature variations over a.......

Light/Dark Switch With Relay

The circuit as shown act as a light detector. Under normal conditions the resistance of the LDR is high, keeping pin 2 low. When light falls onto the LDR the resistance drops to a couple hundred ohms and triggers pin 2 high which biases the base of Q1 via pin 6 and R4 and in turn activates the relay. Experiment 6 Part 1 (Chapter 6) -- Fun With Comparators

Experiment 6 won't take you any time to wire up -- a fairly simple circuit, it's got the inexpensive LM339 chip that cost me about $0. 35 each (bought a bunch at once from Jameco a month ago, along with other components to get me up to Experiment 15) and as Charles points out later in the chapter, LM339s are definitely old school. Yes, microcontrollers (like an Arduino) are often used t.......

3-in-1 mini-Lab Application Note for dsPIC33FJ64GP802

Au Group Electronics Author: Chaonan Chen, Huihui Duan, Au Group ElectronicsThis application note uses a dsPIC33FJ64GP802 (28-pin SOIC SMD package) demonstrating step by step operation on how to use Au Group Electronics "3-in-1 mini-Lab" and "BB0703 programmer" to burn program/code into a dsPIC33F microcontroller. (Note: Experiences found that the VDD level on BB0703 (PICkit 2) is very critical for programming dsPIC33F family microcontrollers, without set it correctly might result in program/era.......

Zero voltage switching (ZVS) technique.

Though the 555 driver i ve been using is quite good in running the flyback, however the MOSFETs were easily heated up . I ve broken about 3-4 MOSFET since i ve been using it. Therefore, when i was searching for a more robust flyback driver in order to use it as my tesla coil power supply afterwards, i realized that zero voltage switching (ZVS) flyback driver can give high voltage without heating the MOSFET too much ( sometimes even none!). Hence, i turned to ZVS from that instance. The most popu.......

UPDATED: LT3652HV - Power Tracking 2A Battery Charger

The LT3652HV is a complete monolithic step-down battery charger that operates over a 4. 95V to 34V input range. The LT3652HV provides a constant-current/constant-voltage charge characteristic, with maximum charge current externally programmable up to 2A. The charger employs a 3. 3V float voltage feedback reference, so any desired battery float voltage up to 18V can be programmed with a resistor divider. The LT3652HV employs an input voltage regulation loop, which reduces charge current if the in.......
